The second season of Pacific Blues, a nationally syndicated TV series produced in Kailua-Kona and featuring local charter boats and captains, premieres Thursday.
The show takes the viewer on a journey into the world of the Pacific Blue Marlin where viewers discover the science, the stories and the adrenaline that comes with fighting these apex predators. It premieres at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on KITV.
“My times spent tag-and-release fishing off of the coast of Kona are priceless. This series is a way for me to share these beautiful and thrilling experiences with everyone,” said Pacific Blues’ Executive Producer Ken Corday.
Pacific Blues is produced by Emmy Award-winning Corday Productions (Days of our Lives, NBC), in association with Kona-based production company Farish Media, which is responsible for writing, filming and editing the series.
From aerial footage captured by helicopter and drone, to underwater footage, multiple GoPro’s on every boat and cameramen on charter and chase boats, Farish Media covers the action from all angles.
“We’ve been shooting fishing tournaments and TV programs for years, so we knew what we needed to make this a fun and compelling series,” Director Mason Farish said.
“In addition to the great fishing action, gorgeous island footage gives the national viewer a taste of all that Hawaii Island has to offer and promotes our beautiful home,” said Production Manager Regina Farish.
Pacific Blues is hosted by marine biologist Andrew West, Ph.D. who also contributes his knowledge of the Pacific Blue Marlin in Marlin 101 sessions. Chef Katherine Louie prepares a delicious fresh catch recipe in each episode. Capt. Kevin Hibbard shares his hands-on fishing expertise in Fishing Academy segments.
In Grander Stories, captains re-live their favorite memories of catching some of the world’s biggest fish. Viewers will experience the high drama and excitement of hooking up to a Pacific Blue Marlin aboard the Kona Blue, Humdinger, Ihu Nui, Northern Lights, Marlin Grando and more.
The second episode will air 6:30 p.m. June 5 and the third at 7:30 p.m. June 8 on KITV.
